The Official USA Government Diversity Visa Lottery Immigration and Naturalization Program uses the US Diversity Immigration Lottery (Green Card Lottery) as way to provide non-citizens and opportunity to live, work, and study in the United States. Those selected by the lottery may also bring their family to the United States and apply to become a U.S. Citizen.
The USA congressionally mandated Diversity Immigration Visa Program is administered annually. The Department of State conducts the lottery that chooses immigrants that qualify as “diversity immigrants”. Each year a maximum of 55,000 DVs are made to people who are from countries where US immigration rates are relatively low.
The filing period for the DV-2017 will be held from October to November of 2015, and will last for 30 days. Applicants from a qualifying country will be able to apply to be considered in the lottery during that time. They must also meet other requirements for eligibility related to education and work experience. These requirements will be verified before anyone who has won the lottery is issued a visa.
Applicants can apply at www.GreenCardUSA.com to submit their profile and get a chance to win a visa. Some examples of countries that are not eligible include Nigeria, Great Britain, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, and Peru. The filing period will be held from October 2015 to November 2015, lasting 30 days.
